A 52-year-old Honokaa man who apparently staged his own disappearance has been arrested by police.
Derek Faisin Liu was apprehended at about 1:30 a.m. today and charged with two counts of violating terms of bail.
Police released a wanted bulletin on Dec. 2 seeking the public’s help in finding Liu. Two days later, Liu became the subject of a missing person investigation when his 12-foot inflatable Zodiac-type boat was found floating a mile off the coast in the Kohala Estate area. His truck was reportedly found abandoned nearby, as well.
